The Namibian dollar (N$) was introduced in 1993, three years after independence from South Africa. It remains pegged 1:1 to the South African rand, and the rand still circulates alongside it within Namibia today.
Five denominations circulate: N$10, N$20, N$50, N$100, and N$200, featuring Namibia's wildlife and desert landscapes.
The Namibian dollar is pegged 1:1 to the South African rand, and rand is accepted directly, so you can bring rand without exchanging it at all. The reverse isn't true, though — Namibian dollars are often not accepted in South Africa, so it's worth spending or exchanging any leftover before you leave. Outside major cities, card payments are limited, so it's safer to carry plenty of cash.
